YANKTON – Less than 16 hours after managing just one run, the Aberdeen Circus Sports Bar produced plenty of offense in an 18-8 win over the Rapid City Diamondbacks during an elimination game of the State A Amateur Baseball Tournament Sunday afternoon.

Circus, which fell 4-1 late Saturday night, rapped out 15 hits, including six for extra bases in the 10-run rule victory over the Diamondbacks.

Aberdeen broke free from a 2-2 tie with eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. The frame was highlighted by a grand slam home run from Gus Steiger, a pickup player from Castlewood. Brandon Kusler and Ryan Ellingson also had run-producing hits in the uprising.

Rapid City cut into the deficit in the top of the third on a three-run home run from Jace Caldwell, however Circus responded with six straight runs to regain control.

Colton Cox drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third, and then Aberdeen tacked on five more runs in the fifth, three coming on an Ellingson home run. Kelly Coates also had an RBI single.

After the Diamondbacks scored three straight runs, Circus eventually ended the contest in the bottom of the eighth as Ellingson drove in another run on single, before Alex Gauer evoked the 10-run rule with an RBI double.

Steiger, who also stole home in the bottom of the first inning for a run, and Ellingson each drove in five runs for Aberdeen.

Ellingson finished with three hits, while Steiger, Coates, Michael Babcock and Mitchell Babcock each had a pair of hits.

Jesse Riddle had three hits to power Rapid City.

Aberdeen moves on to face the defending State A champion Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels at 3 p.m. Friday in Mitchell in another elimination contest.
