Aberdeen Circus had some chances, but in the end fell 7-2 to the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels during the State A Amateur Baseball Tournament Friday afternoon.

Sioux Falls built a seven-run lead through the first six innings of the contest.

Jon Wilhelmsen played a key role in the victory for the defending State A champs. He scored on a sacrifice fly in the second inning before delivering a two-run home run in the fourth.

Wilhelmsen was also involved in a pivotal four-run sixth inning. After Jack Simonsen led off the frame with a solo home run, Wilhelmsen doubled to put runners on second and third. One came in on a sac fly before Wilhelmsen scored for the third time in the game on a double by Jaden Holzer. The final Sioux Falls run scored on an error.

Circus had multiple chances throughout the contest. Aberdeen loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth, but failed to score. It had two hits and walk in the fifth, but hit into a double play and had a runner thrown out at third. Circus added two more hits in the sixth, but was kept off the board.

Aberdeen scored a run in the seventh on Michael Babcock’s RBI single, but left the bases loaded. Circus added another run in the ninth when Jesse Babcock scored on a passed ball.
