MADISON – The Aberdeen Roncalli golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at the Madison Invitational golf tournament on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers tied with Madison and West Central, all with scores of 338. Tea Area won the team title with a score of 313, nine strokes ahead of Dakota Valley (322). Chamberlain finished third with a score of 332.

Chamberlain’s Dakota Munger won the individual title with a score of 72, two strokes ahead of Tea Area’s Derek Anderson (74).

Roncalli’s Andrew Gerlach finished with a team-best round of 79, earning a sixth-place finish, while Milbank Area’s Jonathan DeBoer tied for 12th with a score of 81.

Roncalli’s Finn Anderson tied for 16th with a score of 82, while Jesse Hernandez carded an 87. Lucas Daggett and Aiden Hernandez each shot a 90, while Matthew Gerlach had a round of 98.

Roncalli coach Jon Murdy said every member of the team improved during the meet.

“Whether it was their score, short game, hitting more fairways,” Murdy said. “All good things to keep building on.”

Murdy also noted that the competition was strong, and he looks forward to how the season will progress.

“Played against some tough teams – Tea, Chamberlain, Madison, Dakota Valley,” Murdy said. “So, it’s going to be a fun year to see who will battle for first place in a lot of events.”

The Cavaliers will compete in the Northeast Conference Tournament on Tuesday at Fisher Grove Golf Course outside of Redfield.
