WATERTOWN – A pair of Aberdeen boys golf squads found themselves in action Tuesday afternoon at the Watertown Invitational at Cattail Crossing Golf Course. Aberdeen Central finished seventh overall with a score of 326, while Aberdeen Roncalli was two spots back in ninth place with a team score of 332.
The host Arrows edged Pierre by three strokes to take the top spot in the team standings with a 4-over 292.
Both teams’ top two golfers turned in identical rounds, as Peyton Brust of Central and Jesse Hernandez of Roncalli each carded a 79 to finish in a tie for 18th place.
Similarly, Cole Brust and Carter Blanchard of Central and Roncalli’s Gannon May each turned in a round of 82 to finish as their respective team’s second scorer. That round was good for a tie for 29th place finish for the three golfers.
After that, it was Central with the slight upper hand, Jackson Ravellette posted a round of 83, while Roncalli’s third and fourth golfers, Lucas Daggett and Finn Anderson, turned in scores of 84 and 87, respectively.
Roncalli coach Jon Murdy acknowledged it wasn’t his team’s best outing of the season, but still found some bright spots, particularly with his top two finishers.
“It was great to see Jesse and Gannon play well,” Murdy said. “Hopefully they can keep building on that moving forward.”

Both Central and Roncalli are slated to play in the Sisseton Invitational Thursday before their schedules diverge next week. The Golden Eagles will head to the Eastern South Dakota Conference meet on Monday in Yankton, while Roncalli will return to Sisseton that day for the Region 1A tournament.
“Lots of little things to clean up for us going into postseason play,” Murdy said.
