GROTON – Frederick swept both team championships during the Groton Invitational Cross Country Meet on Monday afternoon.

Frederick’s Morgan Sumption won the girls’ race with teammate Jillian Ellwein third to help power the Titans to the team crown. Madison Zirbel of Waubay-Summit was runner-up. Ryelle Gilbert of Groton was fourth, and Hazel Kannegieter of Aberdeen Roncalli fifth.

The majority of the varsity runners for Roncalli competed in the JV races on the day to get in some speed work for upcoming meets.

Kaleb Foltz of Tri-State continued his stellar fall by winning the boys’ race. Foltz has now won five meets in the past two weeks.

Milo Sumption of Frederick was runner-up in the boys’ race, followed by Aidan Thurber of Ellendale, N.D., Austin Jenkins of Leola, and Kalen Godel of Langford Area to round out the top five.

Roncalli is heading to Grand Forks, N.D., on Saturday to compete in the Border Battle, which will feature runners from South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Canada.
