YANKTON – Deshani Peters scored twice in the second half and assisted on a third, propelling the Aberdeen Central girls’ soccer program to a 4-0 blanking of Yankton Saturday afternoon in the Golden Eagles’ final road game of the regular season.

That flurry of action came after Peters was briefly taken out of the game in the first half after a collision. Peters was cleared to play and returned to “full steam by the second half,” said Central coach Merle Aske.

After Lauren Joosten scored the game’s first goal within the first three minutes of action, the Golden Eagles weathered a couple setbacks within the lineup, including Peters’ brief absence. Still, the host Gazelles could do nothing with the those opportunities.

“I thought we played pretty well today,” Aske said. “Offensively and defensively, it was probably one of the most complete games we’ve played all year. We stayed organized, and controlled the pace of the game.”

Aske noted that Yankton kept its defensive line packed in behind the ball, but said his team did a nice job of finding and exploiting some seams.

“We did a good job of breaking them down defensively and getting into the open spot,” he said.

Peters assisted on Central’s second goal of the game and first of the second half, putting a corner kick in for Taylor Lyke to finish. Peters then scored twice in two minutes late in the game to wrap up the scoring.

Central will wrap up the regular season with a pair of home games. The Golden Eagles host Mitchell Tuesday in a rescheduled game before taking on Pierre Thursday. Both contests are set for 4 p.m. starts at the Gene Brownell Activities Complex.
