LANGFORD – The Langford Area volleyball team made it a clean sweep on Tuesday.
The Lions picked up a 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 Lake Region Conference win over the Aberdeen Christian Knights.
Despite the loss, Christian coach Sara Powell noted her team played with effort throughout the match.
“I felt like they continued to work hard. They want it,” Powell said. “We’re going to get there. It’s just continuing to work as a team and keeping each other positive and up. Just the little errors really hurt us.”
The little errors began adding up after the first two sets, as the Knights struggled to finish the sets strong.
“The first and second sets were a lot of just little errors that we just need to clean up and focus on just to believe in ourselves that we can finish,” Powell said.
During the third set, Christian came close to capturing the win and forcing a fourth set, but more errors allowed the Lions to pull ahead late, sealing the sweep.
“The third set we were down and then came back, and then we were up,” Powell said. “We had forced errors and we just couldn’t get it finished.”
Chloe Bosma had five kills and two aces for the Knights, while Sawyer Schwan had four aces and eight assists. Payton Skarin had three kills, nine digs, and one ace. Jolie Fogarty added five kills, 10 digs, three assists, and a pair of blocks.
Powell had positive takeaways for her players.
“Both Sawyer and Jolie have great hands. Jolie also can hit the ball too,” Powell said. “Sawyer is very consistent, both with serving and setting. Chloe – I can always count on her to come in clutch and help us. We’ve got Chloe and Payton at outside’s too, and once they’re on, they’re on, and they can be consistent, so they both played a big role tonight, too.”
Langford Area (2-4) will play at Wolsey-Wessington on Saturday, while Christian (0-3) will host Hitchcock-Tulare next Tuesday.
Powell noted there are several things the team will need to work on before next Tuesday’s match.
“I told the girls to be ready to do some serving. We had a lot of serving errors tonight, and that hurt us definitely” Powell said. “And being able to finish a game on top. I think being a young team, we get in our heads and we can’t finish. I think just learning to let that play go and go to the next is something that we definitely need to work on.”
