IPSWICH – Miller and Potter County won team championships during the Ipswich Invitational Cross County Meet on Saturday.

Alex Schumacher of Miller won the boys’ race with teammate Pierce Baumberger second to lead the Rustlers to the boys’ team title. Autumn Fallis of Highmore won the girls’ race with defending State B champion Potter County claiming the girls’ team crown.

Aberdeen Roncalli was second in team points in both divisions.

“It was a really good day,” said Roncalli coach Brady Lesnar. “The kids were pretty excited about what they did.”

Roncalli’s Paul Gutenkauf clocked a time of 17:38.76 to finish fourth in the boys’ race.

“Paul had an excellent day. He put together an effort that we’ve been wanting to see,” Lesnar said. “I was really impressed with what he did. He is coming along. That was definitely a PR time for him.”

Matthew Peterson finished 11th for the Cavaliers.

Roncalli had three runners all within 11 seconds of each other in the girls’ race as Paige Schmidt finished ninth (20:48.20), Sarah Schmidt 10th (20:57.86), and Hazel Kannegieter 11th (20:59.03).

“Paige, Sarah and Hazel all ran excellent races. For Sarah and Paige, those are times that they were running two years ago. It’s good to see them back in their form of getting in the those 20s. Hopefully, we can keep dropping those times,” Lesnar said. “Hazel has a lot of potential. It was good for her to finally break 21 and now we work our way down even more.”

After competing in two meets in three days, the Cavaliers will take a bit of break before running in their own invitational Thursday at Lee Park Golf Course.
