CLARK – Aberdeen Roncalli got back into the win column in convincing fashion Thursday with a straight-sets sweep of Clark-Willow Lake. The Cavaliers claimed victory by set scores of 27-25, 25-12 and 25-20 in the Northeast Conference volleyball match.

Roncalli coach Mandy Smid said the Cavaliers had to fight off some initial uncertainty, due to some lineup changes necessitated by injuries.

“The girls reacted and pulled together,” Smid said. “After a back and forth first set with high emotions in the gym, we really set the pace in set two.”

The match featured several long rallies, Smid said, which forced the Cavaliers to play with renewed focus on ball control.

“Maddie Huber had some key points for us from the right side to complement our middles and outsides,” Smid said.

The Cavaliers also put pressure on the host Cyclones from the service line, finishing with 10 aces. Faith Danielson and Camryn Bain combined for five of those.

“Faith Danielson started off sets one and three with a powerful serve to cause Clark to send us some free balls,” Smid said.

Ava Hanson paced the Cavaliers offensively with 13 kills, while Huber notched 10 kills and a dozen assists. Danielson also finished with 20 assists.

Now 10-2 on the season, Roncalli will host Belle Fourche this evening in a varsity-only match beginning at 5 p.m. at the Roncalli Gym.
