SISSETON – Aberdeen Roncalli put all four scorers in the top 13 to lay claim to the team title at the Sisseton Invitational Thursday afternoon at Valley View Country Club.

Lucas Daggett’s round of 87 led the way for the Cavaliers in Thursday’s meet, which was a preview look at the site of next week’s Region 1A meet. Roncalli’s other three scorers – Jesse Hernandez, Gannon May and Finn Anderson – all carded rounds of 90 to round out the Cavaliers’ team score of 357.

That, it turned out, was just enough to edge Groton by a single stroke for the top spot in the team standings. Flandreau finished third with a 360 and Sioux Valley was fourth with a team score of 362, led by individual medalist Tate Steffensen.

“It wasn’t the prettiest team score, but a win is a win,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “Hopefully the kids learned a little more about the golf course to play better on Monday for regions.”

The Cavaliers and the rest of the Region 1A field will return to Valley View Monday for that region meet, which will determine the qualifying field of teams and individuals for the Class A state tournament.
