HARRISBURG – Down two starters already – one offensive and one defensive – Aberdeen Central lost a third midway through the first period, and Harrisburg was able to take advantage, rolling to a 3-0 win over the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon in Harrisburg.

With Deshani Peters and Bailey DeGroot already out of service due to scheduling conflicts, the Golden Eagles saw one of its captains, Kirra Stillman, go down with an injury just 22 minutes into the game.

“We were scrambling a bit,” said Central coach Merle Aske. “Moving a lot of people around and putting them in spots they haven’t been in before. Asking some players who haven’t played much to play more minutes. There was a lot of stuff happening for one game.”

Despite the loss, which snapped a 5-match win streak for the Golden Eagles, Aske said he couldn’t fault his team’s effort.

“The girls played hard, and we had a couple opportunities,” he said. “Just couldn’t get anything going.”

Hailee Christensen had two of the three goals for Harrisburg, including one off a free kick that came as a result of the call in that 22nd minute in which Stillman was injured. Taylor Halstenson had the Tigers’ game-opening goal in the 10th minutes.

“Sometimes it’s good in a game like that, it’s good to get (players) in those situations, so if we have to rely on them even in a part-time role, they can perform well when we need them,” Aske said.

The Golden Eagles will look to rebound Tuesday when they head to Tea Area to take on the Titans.
