WOLSEY – The Wolsey-Wessington volleyball team proved to be too much for Aberdeen Christian to handle on Thursday night.
The Knights fell 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 to the Warbirds in a non-conference volleyball match.
Despite the loss, Christian coach Sara Powell said there were several positives to take away from the match.
“I think we received at like a 90%, which was good for us. Sawyer Schwan had a great serving night,” Powell said. “The girls fought hard. They kept battling back and pushing.”
Powell gave credit to some of the Warbirds’ hitters, which she said threw the Knights out of rhythm.
“They had some really good hitters,” Powell said, “and I don’t know that we were exactly ready for a couple of their hitters.”
Kailyn Dorris topped Wolsey-Wessington with 14 kills. Samara Clemente contributed nine.
Chloe Bosma led Christian with five kills. Schwan served up three aces.
The Warbirds travel to Sanborn Central-Woonsocket on Tuesday, while the Knights play in the Ipswich Invitational on Saturday before gearing up for a busy week next week. Powell said the biggest thing the team needs is rest.
“It’ll be a long week because we play this weekend, then Monday, Tuesday, Thursday,” Powell said. “We’ve had a couple of injuries the last few days, so hopefully they can get some rest and bounce back before the long week.”
