FARGO, N.D. – Aberdeen Central won two of its final three matches to conclude play in the Scheel’s volleyball tournament on Saturday. The Golden Eagles defeated Minot North 25-15, 25-15 and West Fargo 25-20, 25-19, before falling in a tight match to Bismarck 25-19, 15-25, 15-11.

Central coach Jackie Bindenagel said her team played better than it did when it lost two of three matches in the tourney on Friday.

“I thought we had a nice balanced effort from our hitters this weekend,” Bindenagel said. “Ayrlie Waldo made some good choices and did a nice job running our offense. Today was a really good day passing for us, too.”

Grace Kuch and Lauryn Burckhard each had eight kills in the win over Minot, Waldo topped the team with five aces.

Kuch and Ashley Wangler had six kills apiece in the triumph over West Fargo. The Eagles also had 10 aces in that contest.

Burckhard finished with eight kills against Bismarck, while Kuch and Ashley Wangler each contributed seven. Emma Dohrer lead the squad with four aces.

Waldo racked up 65 total assists in the three matches.

“Good bounce back from a fairly rough start on Friday,” Bindenagel said of her team’s performances to finish off the tourney.

Central, 13-6 on the season, travels to top-rated Harrisburg for an Eastern South Dakota Conference match on Thursday.
