Dragons control middle quarters in win over Northern

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State, Moorhead scored 24 unanswered points to help fuel a 45-26 win over Northern State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football action Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons pulled away from a 14-13 edge with a field goal to end the first half and then three touchdowns in the third quarter. The Wolves were never able to recover.

Anthony Vespo threw for 273 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Wolves. Dewaylon Ingram caught both of those scoring strikes and finished with nine receptions for 131 yards.

Brett Brenton led the Northern State ground game, rushing for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Jack Strand powered the Moorhead offense with 448 yards passing and four touchdowns, one each to four different receivers.

The Wolves, 1-4 on the season, return home to host Minot State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for Gypsy Days.
