A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of Oct. 22-28:

Last year on Oct. 26, 2022: After playing pro basketball abroad for nine years in 27 countries, seven-foot Yankton High School graduate Colton Iverson has retired. Iverson was born in Aberdeen on June 29, 1998.

10 years ago on Oct. 26, 2013: The Ipswich girls of coach Todd Thorson won their fourth straight State B cross country championship in dominating fashion. The Tigers placed five members among the top 16 runners in the field: Macy Heinz (third), Tyler Loken (fifth), Tori Moore (sixth), Aleah Steger (11th) and Bailey Hammrich (16th).

20 years ago on Oct. 25, 2003: While bowling in a “Beat the Coach” session, Rapid City’s 16-year-old Cassie Leuthold rolled a 300. She was competing against veteran coach Keith L’Esperance, who rolled a 299.

30 years ago on Oct. 22, 1993: Nick Appl scored twice to give Mobridge a 14-7 win over Deuel in Clear Lake. Appl scored on a one-yard run and a 53-yard pass from Todd Schlekeway.

40 years ago on Oct. 22, 1983: SDSU junior linebacker Todd Yackley of Sully Buttes had seven tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception that stopped Augustana from scoring in the final four minutes to help his Jackrabbits preserve a 13-9 victory.

50 years ago on Oct. 27, 1973: Black Hills State junior Ricky Crain of Rapid City set a powerlifting world record at a meet in Omaha, NE. Crain squat lifted 513 pounds, a new world record for the 148-pound division.
