MARSHALL, Minn. – Northern State shutout Southwest Minnesota State in the second half to celebrate its second homecoming victory in as many weeks on Saturday. One week after a Gypsy Days win, the Wolves spoiled Southwest’s homecoming with a 24-17 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football win.

The Wolves trailed 17-10 at halftime before Colton Hackel passed for a touchdown and ran for another to help put Northern on top.

Hackel fired a 63-yard touchdown pass to DeWaylon Ingram just 16 seconds into the third period as Northern leveled the score. Hackel then provided the eventual game-winner with a 7-yard TD run about four minutes later.

Hackel, who finished with 215 yards passing, also fired a 51-yard scoring strike to Dakota Larson in the opening half.

Brett Brenton led the NSU rushing attack with 116 yards, while Ingram finished with 132 yards receiving.

Jake Adams topped the Wolves with eight tackles.

Northern, 3-4 on the season, returns home Saturday to take on Wayne State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Dacotah Bank Stadium.
