RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Roncalli finished sixth in the team standings, while the race for the team championship came down to the wire Tuesday at the Class A State Boys’ Golf Tournament at Hart Ranch in Rapid City.
Vermillion edged Tea Area by a single stroke to claim the team crown with a total of 642. The Cavaliers finished sixth a score of 683. Groton was ninth at 703.
“I’m proud of the way the boys competed on Day 2,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy. “It was tough course conditions and really windy throughout the day. The whole team was a little down finishing sixth place, but I had to remind them sixth place is still really good.”
West Central’s Anthony Lanham won the individual championship with a two-day total of 143, two strokes better than runner-up Vincent VanLiere of St. Thomas More.
Milbank Area’s Jonathan DeBoer was the top area finisher, tying for ninth with a 36-hole score of 158.
Roncalli was led by Finn Anderson, who tied for 16th with a score of 167. Teammate Andrew Gerlach tied for 27th along with Groton’s Brevin Fliehs with scores of 167.
