Wolves fall just short against top-rated Wayne State

The Northern State volleyball team rallied from two sets down and pushed top-rated Wayne State to the brink before falling in five sets at Wachs Arena Friday night. Wayne edged the Wolves 28-26, 25-20, 20-25, 21-25, 15-12 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match.

The fifth set was a battle the entire way with neither team leading by more than two points the entire way until the end. Northern led 8-7 on the changeover, but never managed a lead after that. The score was tied at 8, 9, 10 and 11 before the Wildcats eventually took a 13-11 advantage on the way to securing the match.

Hanna Thompson finished with a match-high 25 kills for Northern. Natalia Szybinska added 19. Keri Walker contributed 54 set assists.

The Wolves 15-5 overall and 7-4 in the NSIC, host Sioux Falls this afternoon at 2 in another conference match.
