Warner’s Hunter Cramer headlines the Class 9A all-state football team, earning All-American honors after leading the Monarchs to their first state championship in school history this past season.
The senior quarterback finished with 211 rushing yards, 188 passing yards, and five total touchdowns in the title game, while also earning Joe Robbie MVP and Most Outstanding Back Awards.
A pair of Monarchs are on the offensive teams. Senior Brodey Sauerwein was chosen as a tight end, while junior Preston Cavalier was selected as an offensive lineman. Cavalier was the Most Outstanding Lineman Award winner in the Class 9A championship game. Warner’s Charlie Dulany was a defensive selection, making the squad as a linebacker.
Other area players included Wolsey-Wessington junior wide receiver Moshe Richmond and Castlewood senior defensive lineman Adam Heyn.
Cramer was everywhere on the field for the Monarchs. This season, he compiled 2,541 yards of total offense, including rushing 120 times for 1,134 yards (9.5 average) and 27 touchdowns, while also completing 90 passes for 1,407 yards and 12 touchdowns with a 70 percent completion rate. In his career, Cramer tallied 476 carries for 3,307 rushing yards and 79 touchdowns, while passing for 4,022 yards and 40 touchdowns. As a four-year starter, he finished with 7,329 yards, 119 touchdowns. He played in three state championship games.
“Hunter has been a big part of our football program for the past four years,” Warner coach Kerwin Hoellein said. “He will finish his career as one of the best players in Warner history. He is a great player, great teammate, great leader, and a great role model.”
Sauerwein was one of Warner’s top receiving targets from his tight end position. This season, he finished with 13 catches for 309 yards and four touchdowns. The two-year starter never lost a home game with the Monarchs.
Cavalier helped pave the way for a Monarchs team that rushed for 2,452 yards and passed for 1,487 yards this season. He is a two-year starter and was chosen as the team’s outstanding lineman.

Dulany was one of the top tacklers for the Monarchs this season, finishing with 57 tackles and two sacks. A two-year starter, he had 107 career tackles and three sacks, and was a member of a senior class that never lost a home game in four years. The teams he played on were a combined 38-6.
Richmond was all over the field for the Warbirds. Offensively, he finished with 43 catches for 551 yards and seven touchdowns, while also rushing for 159 yards and two more scores. Defensively, he had 25 solo tackles and 34 assisted tackles, as well as 12 tackles for loss and two interceptions.
“Moshe is a one-of-a-kind player who puts the work in the off-season to prepare himself to play at a high level,” Wolsey-Wessington coach Hayden Hooks said. “Throughout the season, we saw many different looks to account for Moshe, most often being double teamed. (He) stepped into a leadership role (this) year and is deserving of all state honors.”
Heyn played center for a Castlewood offense that rushed for 1,400 yards and passed for another 1,100 yards. Defensively, he played multiple positions, including nose tackle, defensive tackle, and linebacker. He finished with 37 tackles, three sacks, and one fumble recovery.
“Adam was the leader of this year’s group,” Castlewood coach Doug Ruesink said. “Smart and tough kid we could’ve put anywhere. He really wanted to play fullback or halfback, but the need was there for center the last two years. He took the job and ran with it (and) orchestrated the O-line. Hard-nosed.”
Camron Eng of Castlewood was an honorable mention selection.

Eng had several roles for the Warriors, including rushing for 369 yards and four touchdowns, and adding 150 yards receiving and one touchdown. Defensively, he had 46 tackles, 6 sacks, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
“Camron was a nice addition to the starting lineup on both sides of the ball this season,” Ruesink said. “He loves football and isn’t afraid to make contact. His speed and agility of offense helped us move the ball down the field. On defense, he had an eye for the ball and stopping ball carriers. He will continue to be a valuable asset to us next year.”
