RAPID CITY – The Aberdeen Central girls wrestling program turned up three dual victories Thursday night, claiming identical 54-6 wins over Sioux Falls Washington and Sioux Falls Lincoln and capping the day with a 48-12 win over Huron.

The wins come on the eve of the Rapid City Invitational, one over the largest individual tournaments of the season for the Golden Eagles.

The first two matches featured just three contested weight classes between them. Madyson Gillen recorded the Golden Eagles only contested victory during that stretch, a pin over Washington’s Payton Raastad in the first minute of the match.

Central was able to put together a third dual, however, and came away with a 48-12 win over Huron.

The Golden Eagles recorded six pins out of seven matches in that dual. Gillen (114 pounds), Ula Martin, Jasmine Maas Rakyrah Wallace, Lin Paw Jone and Lilly Nelson all recorded pins in that stretch.

“(The girls) just kept the ball rolling the whole dual,” said Central coach Jake Flakus.

That was important, Flakus noted, especially heading into a big tournament like the Rapid City Invitational. 

“A couple girls hadn’t got a win yet and they got that today,” he said. “So I think that’s the confidence they need before we head into (Friday).”

Action at the Rapid City Invite begins this morning at the Summit Arena.
