PIERRE – Aberdeen Central competed in its first major meet of the season on Saturday during the Pierre Inviational. The Golden Eagles finished seventh out of 12 teams with a team score of 128.475.

“I was very happy with how the girls did. This was the first big invite with pretty much everyone that will be at the state meet,” said Central coach Mickey Everson. “And we are just starting slow with things to add as the season continues, so we have more to showcase as we perfect some things we are working on.”

That said, Everson did not get caught up in the team’s final score. Instead, she noted that her gymnasts had better performances than they did in their season opener on Thursday.

“We are very capable of hitting 130. We fixed the falls we had on Thursday,” Everson said. “We had a lot of solid beam routines, and our vaults and bars were cleaned up.”

Everson said scores tend to be a bit lower at this event, “so I told the girls ahead of time to just do their best to ‘keep it clean’ to lower deductions. Get rid of small steps, baubles, bent legs and loose form. They did just what I asked and am proud of how well they performed.”

Addison Everson led the squad with a 31.900 all-around score, while Johanna Jarrott was right behind with a 31.050.

The Golden Eagles will now have a week to prepare for the annual Hub City Invitational on Saturday at the Auxiliary Gym.

“The athletes are looking forward to that now that we have a couple of scores under our belt,” Coach Everson said.
