MITCHELL – Aberdeen Central picked right back up after the holiday break, claiming a 69-6 boys’ wrestling victory over Mitchell Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles dropped just two contested matches over the course of the dual en-route to another Eastern South Dakota Conference victory.
Central coach Donnie Bowden said the dual was a good way to get back into competition mode.
“Once we got going … we hit stride,” Bowden said. “Obviously, we got a couple forfeits, but it was more a team effort getting back into it and picking up where we left off with Huron.”
Central’s Will Allen (120 pounds) kicked off a string of six straight Golden Eagle victories. Five of those six wins came by fall, including Porter Lozenski (126), Tate Huff (132), Ridley Waldo (138), Owen Ward (144) and Grayden Timm (150).
Ayden Gisi (215) rounded out Central’s competition wins with a pin, as well.
“It was good,” Bowden said. “Especially when you get back and only get one day of practice and then you’re expected to go compete.”
Central will send a handful of varsity wrestlers to Webster today, and will be back in action with a full slate next weekend at the Bismarck Rotary tournament.
