Aberdeen Cougars skate past Rushmore for 6-2 win

RAPID CITY - The Aberdeen Cougars scored two goals in each period to snap a brief two-game skid on the way to a 6-2 girls' hockey victory over the Rapid City Rushmore on Saturday night. Alyssa Roehrich and Kaylee Dixon each scored a pair of goals in the victory as the Cougars outshot Rushmore by a strong 41-15 margin. "We came out with good effort and hustle. We created some good scoring opportunities, but some of the shots we missed the net or put it right into the goalie," said Aberdeen coach Rob Weinmeister. "But I really like the fact that we are creating those scoring chances." Addyson Keller and Allison Woehl had the other Aberdeen goals. Kailyn Poppen had two assists in the victory. While the Cougars controlled the contest, Rushmore did score a pair of goals in the closing minutes. "I would have liked us to finish the game. We kind of let up that last five minutes and gave up a couple of goals," Weinmeister said. "So now we'll have to come out (Sunday) ready to pl
