WILMOT – Aberdeen Christian put four starters in double figures and roared to a 62-35 girls’ basketball victory over Wilmot Thursday night.

The win is Christian’s first of the season.

The Knights doubled up Wilmot 14-7 in the first quarter and never let up after that, pulling a little further ahead at each break.

“I’m very excited and proud of this group of young girls,” said Christian coach Cristian Martinez. “We have been fighting very hard and tonight they came up big to get our first victory of the season. It was a good one.”

The Knights got scoring contributions from all five starters, including a game-best 17 points from Chloe Holt. The bulk of that came in the second and third quarters. Chloe Bosma finished with 15 points, all but two of those coming in the first half. Bailey Hundstad notched 13 points and Sophia Fogarty finished with 11.

Jolie Fogarty, the Knights’ fifth starter, scored just four points, but shouldered an even bigger responsibility on the defensive end of the court.

“Our freshman Jolie Fogarty had a big role on defense, stopping their best player,” Martinez said.

Wilmot’s Addison Heinje led the Wolves with 14 points, but was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. Jada Cameron chipped in with a dozen points, including a 6-for-8 performance at the free throw line.

Christian will look for a second straight victory on Saturday when it hosts Waverly/South Shore at the Civic Arena. Tipoff is set for around 3:30 p.m.
