Chargers connect from distance in win over Cavaliers

HAYTI – The second-rated Hamlin Chargers were potent from the perimeter on Tuesday night. Hamlin knocked down 13 3-pointers to fuel a 77-38 Northeast Conference boys’ basketball win over Aberdeen Roncalli. The Cavaliers kept the game close early on, trailing 14-11 after the first quarter, however, the Chargers took control in the second quarter, opening up a 40-24 halftime advantage. While Hamlin pulled away, Roncalli coach Dan Gallagher said his team made the Chargers earn their points. “They shot really well,” Gallagher said. “We competed all game and made them work for a lot of their shots, but they were able to execute well.” Hamlin continued its offensive efficiency in the second half, while also holding the Cavaliers to 14 points. “Their guards really make you work offensively and keep you spaced out on the perimeter, making it tough to get good looks,” Gallagher said. “We were hoping to get more three-point attempts, but they contested everyth
