WHITE – Aberdeen Christian had a strong second-half effort, but ultimately came up short on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights fell to Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 47-41 in girls’ basketball action at the Dakota Valley Conference Classic.

The Raiders bolted out to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter and eventually led 33-15 at the halftime break. Knights head coach Cristian Martinez said the slow start contributed to the loss.

“First half my girls started very slow with 17 turnovers and the other team had a good lead in the first half,” Martinez said.

In the second half, the Christian defense clamped down on the Raiders, giving up just 14 points in the entire half, while scoring 26 of its own. However, the comeback effort fell short as Oldham-Ramona-Rutland handed the Knights their tenth consecutive loss this season.

Despite the loss, Martinez was pleased with how his team played in the second half.

“We (came to) play way better in the second half with just seven turnovers and 26 (points),” Martinez said. “(Our) defense let them score just 14 points in the second half.”

Oldham-Ramona-Rutland (3-10) was led by Bailey Hyland, who scored a game-high 23 points, while Julia Trygstad had 11 points.

The Knights were led by Sophia Fogarty and Chloe Holt with 10 points apiece, while Jolie Fogarty totaled 8 points to the effort.
