GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Aberdeen Cougars had a strong outing en route to a 3-1 win over Estevan, Saskatchewan in the opening round of the Grand Forks Tournament on Friday.

Brady Huff scored a pair of second-period goals for the Cougars. The Canadian squad scored 14 seconds in the third period to cut the lead in half, but Aberdeen was able to maintain the margin until Talan Dutenhoeffer’s late goal helped to ice the victory.

Aberdeen outshot Estevan by a total of 37-16.

“I thought it was a good opening round game,” said Cougars coach Jeremey Backous. “We moved the puck well and made some nice plays in the offensive zone. Their goalie made some incredible saves, but we kept at it and were able to put a few past him.”

The Cougars, 12-7 on the season, face Minot this morning at 10:15.
