PIERRE – Aberdeen Central had three girls finish in the top four, while Groton’s Liza Krueger won an individual championship during the Pierre Invitational wrestling tournament on Friday.

The Golden Eagles finished in ninth place in the overall team standings in the 30-team field. Webster was 15th. Pierre captured the team crown.

“We had an OK day,” said Central coach Jake Flakus. “Definitely lost some matches we had won, but still a lot of good things to work from.”

Krueger improved to 16-3 on the season in winning the title at 100 pounds.

Gillen won three matches on the day at 114 pounds before falling in the championship match. Gibson had three pins on the way to a third-place showing at 154 pounds, and Jasmine Maas won three matches en route to a fourth place finish at 132 pounds.

“Gillen had a good win today in the semis against a Harrisburg girl and finished second,” Flakus said. “Katrina dropped her semis match, but battled back to get third. Jasmine Maas had a good day finishing fourth.”

Central returns to action Tuesday in a triangular at Yankton.

Cateria Yellow Hawk of Sully Buttes was third at 126 pounds, Tahnie Yellow Hawk of Sully Buttes was third at 132, and Brooke Grajczyk of Webster was fourth at 138.
