WATERTOWN – Aberdeen Central placed three individuals in the top 20 of the all-around competition of the Eastern South Dakota Conference gymnastics meet Saturday.

Alexis Bomesberger led a successive contingent of Golden Eagles with her 18th place finish in the all-around. She was followed by Johanna Jarrott in 19th and Addison Everson in 20th.

Ironically, only Jarrot had the Golden Eagles’ top score in any of the disciplines, as she finished 13th overall in vault. Central’s other top scorers included Izzy Locker (22nd in bars) and Regan Lust (21st in beam, 22nd in floor exercise).

Central coach Mickey Everson said her squad was looking to repeat an approach they took to competition that they employed just two days prior in the same venue.

“We had a really good meet in Watertown on Thursday,” Everson said. “I wanted to repeat the same energy and excitement they had then. That’s when we compete well.”

Everson said the team even set up camp in the same spot, trying to capture the essence.

“I saw them step up to that mindset and give it everything they had,” she said. “We had our second highest score of the season.”

Central finished in seventh place overall with a score of 134.325, which, Everson said, should be enough to qualify the Golden Eagles for the state meet. The top team from each of the two qualifier meets (ESD and Metro) plus the next six highest scores will be selected to the team competition at the state meet.

O’Gorman won the Metro meet with a score of 136.575, while the remaining Sioux Falls schools fell below the 131 mark.

“This group of athletes pulled it off when it mattered most,” Everson said. “We are extremely proud of them.”

Central will host a last chance meet on Thursday, Feb. 1 for athletes looking to secure spots in the individual competition of the state tournament.
