Wolves blank Duluth in overtime for women’s victory

Morgan Fiedler nailed a last-second 3-pointer to force overtime and Northern State dominated the extra period in an 81-70 women’s basketball win over Minnesota Duluth Saturday at Wachs Arena.

The Wolves owned a 16-point lead at one stage of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest, before Duluth rallied to gain an advantage late in regulation. Rianna Fillipi made a clutch three-point field goal to tie the game in the closing minutes before Fiedler’s triple sent the game to OT.

Northern blanked the Bulldogs 11-0 in the extra session to claim the victory.

Madelyn Bragg poured in a career-high 35 points to pace NSU. Fillipi added 16, and Decontee Smith contributed 10.

Northern, 14-4 overall and 10-2 in the NSIC, plays at Sioux Falls on Friday and at Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.
