LANGFORD – Aberdeen Christian bolted out to an early lead en route to a victory on Tuesday.

The Knights cruised past Langford Area 75-20 for a Lake Region Conference boys’ basketball win. It was the 12th consecutive win for the Knights.

Christian jumped out to a 16-4 first quarter lead, and Knights coach Aaron Moeller said his team’s length made a difference early in the contest, making passes and shots for the Lions difficult.

“Our length really made a difference tonight,” Moeller said. “They just really struggled to find passing lanes. We did a good job defensively.”

The Knights were also able to turn defense into offense as they were able to take advantage of turnovers to help build their lead.

“Defensively, we definitely got the job done,” Moeller said. “Got out in transition and got some easy buckets.”

Christian carried a 36-8 lead into the halftime break, which allowed several other players to see extensive minutes on the court, something Moeller was also glad to see.

“This is the time of the year where you’re thinking about the postseason, but you’re also thinking about kind of what you’re going to be doing next year,” Moeller said. “So, anytime you can get those younger guys some minutes, it’s valuable. Tonight, we were able to do that for most of the third and fourth quarter, so it was good to get some of these younger guys in there and get some of that varsity experience.”

Kalen Godel led Langford Area with 11 points. The Lions (0-19) play at Waverly-South Shore on Friday, Feb. 23 in their regular-season finale.

Joey Johnson led the Knights with 22 points, including three 3-pointers, while Brooks Jett recorded 18 points. Jett Johnson totaled 12 points on four 3-pointers.

The Knights (13-4) will host Potter County on Friday. Moeller said the team should not underestimate how big Friday’s contest will be.

“Boy, oh boy, that is a big, big game for us,” Moeller said. “Obviously their 2-2-1 press is extremely salty, so we’ve got to be ready for that full-court pressure. The message to the guys is two words – decision making. If we make good decisions, we’ll be fine, but the thing about their press is they bait you into making bad decisions, and they’re really good at what they do. It’s going to be a significant challenge for us.”
