SIOUX FALLS – The Aberdeen Cougars capped off a solid weekend of boys’ hockey with a win over another Sioux Falls squad. One day after defeating the Flyers West, the Cougars blanked the Sioux Falls Flyers East 2-0 on Sunday.

Aberdeen scored a pair of first-period goals and that’s all the Cougars needed on the day as Colton Townsend recorded 28 saves in goal.

Lleyton Kleffman scored the first goal for Aberdeen on assists from Devon Fischbach and Brady Huff, before Huff added the other goal about five minutes later on assists from Fischbach and Michael Weisenburger.

“We played great defensively and limited good scoring opportunities,” said Aberdeen coach Jeremey Backous. “When we did give up a chance, Colton was there to back us up.”

The Cougars are now off until the state tournament March 8-10. It appears that Aberdeen will go in as the sixth seed in the event.

“It’s nice to finish out the regular season with two wins against quality opponents,” Backous said.
