EDINA, Minn. – It was a tale of two games for the Aberdeen Cougars on Saturday, splitting a pair of non-league girls’ hockey contests. The Cougars were blanked 3-0 in the first game before roaring back for a 9-0 win in the other contest.

Aberdeen fell against the Minnesota Polar Devils 3-0 in a game where the hosts racked up 32 shots on goal. Cougars goalie Chloe Vikander came up with 29 saves to keep her team in the contest.

“First game was a good fast-paced game,” said Aberdeen coach Rob Weinmeister. “We created a couple opportunities, but weren’t able to capitalize on them. We gave up more shots than I would have liked, but Chloe played great in net.”

Weinmeister said the faster pace dictated play on the ice.

“It was a game where we needed to make quicker decisions and passes,” he said.

The second game was all Cougars as Aberdeen scored four goals in both of the first two periods in a win over the Frost.

Alyssa Roehrich had a pair of goals and two assists in the victory. The Cougars also received goal from seven other players as Aidan Raap, Rachel Siefken, Kailyn Poppen, Morgan Jones, Allison Woehl, Addyson Keller, and Rylee Hepper each found the back of the net.

“Second game we were the faster team and were able to move the puck around and create opportunities,” Weinmeister said.

He said the Cougars played better in their second contest.

“I saw some good things in this evening’s game,” Weinmeister said. “We just have to do those things at a quicker pace when we face those faster teams that take away our time and space.”

Aberdeen concludes the regular season with a game against Minnetonka today before gearing up for the state tournament next weekend in Watertown.
