HARRISBURG – Area wrestlers had a big day at the Harrisburg Girls’ Invitational wrestling tournament on Saturday.

Webster’s Brooke Grajczyk won an individual championship at 138 pounds, while there were numerous place winners from the region during the meet.

Aberdeen Central finished third, just one half point out of second behind Harrisburg.

“We wrestled hard and got some good wins over girls,” said Central coach Jake Flakus.

The Golden Eagles were led by Katrina Gibson and Nina Howard, who both finished second. Jasmine Maas, Rakyrah Wallace, and Lilly Nelson all finished third, and Ula Martin and Allison Neitzel were fourth.

Flakus pointed out a pair of wrestlers who had big days for Central.

“Nina Howard placed second at the heavyweight division as a seventh-grader, and Rakyrah Wallace made her name known placing third,” Flakus said.

Other area top finishes included Dani Batchelor of Clark-Willow Lake and Vi Anderson of Sisseton who were both second, Sophia Knittel of Ipswich-Bowdle who were both third, and Katie Snyder of Webster, and Kyra Tostenson of Milbank were both fourth.

Central is now down to its final two competitions of the season.

“We finish the regular season on Thursday with our ESD meet,” Flakus said, “and then it’s on to state.”
