LANGFORD – Langford Area grabbed a small lead in the first half and finished with a small lead on the scoreboard Tuesday night.

The Lions edged Aberdeen Christian 34-29 in a Lake Region Conference girls’ basketball contest. It was Langford’s final game of the regular-season, while the Knights have one game remaining.

“The girls were fighting for the game tonight until the end,” said Knights coach Cristian Martinez, “but we can’t find the way to get the win.”

Langford’s Alex Darling scored eight points in the opening quarter to give the hosts a 9-8 lead. The Lions extended the margin to four at the break.

While the Knights scored six unanswered points at one stage in the second half, the hosts were able to stay in front, thanks to nine second-half points from Megan Gustafson, who ended up with a game-high 15 points.

Darling added 13 points to the Langford total.

Sophia Fogarty scored 10 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Christian. Chloe Holt followed with eight, and Jolie Fogarty and Chloe Bosma each had five.

The Knights, 2-17 on the year, cap off their regular season by hosting Potter County on Friday night at the Aberdeen Civic Arena.

“(Wednesday) we have to start getting ready for them,” Martinez said, “and try to get the ‘W’ for the last game of the season at home.”
