Third-quarter surge lifts Wolves to women’s win over Winona

Northern State outscored Winona State 22-6 in the third quarter to pave the way to a women’s basketball win Friday night at Wachs Arena.

The Wolves used the pivotal period to erase a halftime deficit on the way to a 61-47 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory.

Brynn Alfson scored 15 points and Deconte Smith followed with 14 to pace NSU. Alayna Benike contributed 10 points. Madelyn Bragg hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds, while Rianna Fillipi led the Wolves with seven assists.

The Wolves, 18-7 overall and 14-5 in the NSIC, have their final regular-season home game this afternoon when they host Minnesota State at 4 p.m.
