Aberdeen Swim Club finishes in top four at state indoor meet

WATERTOWN – The Aberdeen Swim Club had 16 top-eight finishes during the South Dakota 13-and-Over Short Course Championship in Watertown last weekend.

The Stingrays finished in fourth place in the 15-team field. Sioux Falls won the meet, with Watertown second, and Rushmore third.

ASC swimmers not only placed well during the meet, they also saw significant improvement in time.

“It was an encouraging meet for us,” said ASC coach Neil Romney, “with approximately 80% PRs; abundant evidence of improved skills, race strategies, physical capacity, and individual determination; outstanding team spirit, and many significant time drops.”

Lula Karst and Addisyn Hoven each won individual races during the meet.

ASC members who had top-eight finishes during the meet were Annie Bindenagel, Emma DeRouchey, Joe Grebner, Kiera Haugen, Addisyn Hoven, Jack Isaak, Andrew Jorgenson, Ben Jorgenson, Lula Karst, Easton Ketterling, Mali Larson, Claire Malsam, Gian Martinez, Scout Rosendahl, Libby Scepaniak, and Ryan Schmidt.

Aberdeen’s top high-point finishers were Lula Karst and Joe Grebner, who both finished third in their respective age divisions. Karst was third in Girls 13-14 with 88 points, while Grebner was third in Boys 17 and Over with 88 points.

Other top high-point finishers were Ryan Schmidt who was fifth in Boys 13-14 with 84 points, Scout Rosendahl who was ninth in Girls 13-14 with 78 points, Andrew Jorgenson who was 11th in Boys 17 and Over with 71 points, Addisyn Hoven who was 13th in Girls 17 and Over with 69 points, Easton Ketterling who was 15th in Boys 13-14 with 57 points, and Libby Scepaniak who was 16th in Girls 17 and Over with 64 points.

Those that set 100 percent final personal records were Tylie Borge, Jack Isaak, Finnegan Quinn, Scout Rosendahl, and Ryan Schmidt.
