Northern falls to Mustangs in NSIC Tournament

SIOUX FALLS – Northern State got outscored by 27 points from three-point range in a setback to Southwest Minnesota State in the quarterfinals of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs defeated NSU for the second time this season in an 86-75 victory at the Sanford Pentagon.

Southwest connected on 10 of its 29 three-point attempts, while the Wolves were just 1 for 10 from deep.

Bri Stoltzman finished with 30 points and six assists, and Madison Gehloff had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Mustangs.

Madelyn Bragg scored a game-high 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds to power Northern. Rianna Fillipi contributed 14 points, and Alayna Benike followed with 10. Brynn Alfson added nine and Decontee Smith scored eight.

The Wolves finished their season with a 20-9 record.
