RAPID CITY – Aberdeen Roncalli capped off an unbeaten road trip with two more tennis wins at the West River Invitational on Friday. The Cavaliers defeated St. Thomas More 6-3, before blanking Spearfish 9-0.

“Very solid effort over the whole weekend,” said Roncalli coach Jason Haskell. “We struggled early on against STM and snuck out with a hard-earned 6-3 team victory. They are very young and showed very well.”

Roncalli won five of six singles matches against their West River Cavaliers counterpart. Cason Hellwig, Palmer Johnson, Gannon May, Landon Zikmund and Ezra Feickert each won matches, and Hellwig and Zikmund also picked up a doubles win.

“I was pleased to see a couple of our players that struggled early make some adjustments and then move on to victory,” Haskell said.

Roncali then dominated Spearfish, winning each match by at least five games.

“Spearfish, another young team, put up a good fight,” Haskell said, “but we were focused and went to work.”

Friday’s wins come on the heels of victories over Rapid City Stevens and Rapid City Central on Thursday.

“Nice start to the season, 4-0, but this weekend showed us some areas we can work on,” Haskell said. “Extremely pleased with the 4-0 record, but ever more-so with the effort.”

The Cavaliers are now off until playing at Harrisburg and Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday, April 2.
