WATERTOWN – Top-seeded Sisseton pulled away in the second quarter, then held off Tri-Valley for a 63-52 Class A SoDak 16 girls basketball win on Thursday. The Redmen advance to the Class A state tournament where they will face Mount Vernon-Plankinton in the opening round at noon next Thursday in Brookings.

After leading by just six at the end of the opening period, Sisseton used a 16-5 second quarter to pull away for a 33-16 halftime lead.

Tri-Valley (12-11) was led by Madelyn Wenzel with 16 points, while Lauren Grinde totaled 13, and Hillary Hastings had nine.

Krista Langager led Sisseton (21-1) with a game-high 23 points, and Hannah Leverson had 16. Chloe Langager and Rylie Huff each recorded eight, while Emmalee Nielsen added six.

Harding County 58, Northwestern 25

TIMBER LAKE – Second-seeded Harding County used a stout defense to pull away from fifteen- seeded Northwestern for a 58-25 Class B SoDak 16 win on Thursday. The Ranchers move on to the Class B state tournament, where they will face seventh-seeded Lyman in the opening round at 6 p.m. next Thursday in Rapid City.

The Harding County defense caused problems throughout the night, totaling 15 steals and forcing the Wildcats into 34 turnovers.

The Ranchers (22-0) were led by Claire Verhulst and Bailey Verhulst with 13 points apiece, while Macey Wendt totaled nine points.

Northwestern, which ends its season with a 13-10 record, was led by Ana Ratigan with 10 points, while Breelyn Satter, Ella Boekelheide, and Mikaela Schmitt each had four points.

Hanson 49, Florence-Henry 45

MADISON – A fourth-quarter surge propelled Hanson to a 49-45 victory over Florence-Henry in Class A SoDak 16 girls basketball action on Thursday. The Beavers advance to the Class A state tournament where they will face second-seeded Sioux Falls Christian in the opening round at 6 p.m. in Brookings.

Trailing 32-30 after three quarters, the Beavers rallied for the win, outscoring the Falcons 19-13 in the final period, including the final four points in the closing minute to break a 45-45 tie.

Hanson (17-5) was led by Taziah Hawkins with 17 points, while Eliza Oltmanns 11 points. Kylie Haiar had nine, and Cadence Jarding finished with eight.

For Florence-Henry, which finished its season with a 17-6 record, Caylin Kelly totaled a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds.
