A look back at some of the sports happenings during the week of April 21-27:
Last year on April 24, 2023: Aberdeen native Paiton Burckhard played in 165 games in her five-year career as a SDSU women’s basketball player. She missed only one game in five seasons (2018-23). Burckhard now is tied for the second-most career games played in the history of NCAA women’s basketball. Victaria Saxton (2018-23) of South Carolina has the record with 166 games played. Jordan Lewis of Alabama/Baylor also played in 165 career games from 2017-22.
10 years ago on April 26, 2014: In his final home game on the mound on Senior Day, Presentation College senior Chad Ellingson pitched all 15 innings in a 1-0 win over Dakota State. His numbers: 179 pitches, 53 batters faced, zero walks, five hits allowed and worked through six errors his team committed. He would earn the NAIA National Pitcher of the Week award, the first for the PC program.

Three days later after a camp, Team USA head coach Pat Summitt announced her 17-member led by USC’s Cheryl Miller, but Van Goor did not survive the cut.
