Last year on April 28, 2023: Timber Lake native and SDSU tight end Tucker Kraft was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Kraft was the 78th overall pick and the 33rd Jackrabbit to be taken in the NFL Draft. 10 years ago on May 4, 2014: In only her second LPGA event, Kim Kaufman of Clark finished tied for fourth to earn $60,653 at the North Texas Shootout. Long-time PGA golfer and Onida native Curt Byrum of the Golf Channel helped call the event on TV.

20 years ago on May 1, 2004: Webster native Sam Pribyl of USD won the college pole vault in record fashion at the 80 th running of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays. Pribyl cleared 17 feet, 5 inches to break three records held by one of his coaches and mentors, Derek Miles, a former USD standout who is now one of the world’s best pole vaulters. Pribyl broke Miles’ meet, USD and all-time South Dakota college records.

30 years ago on May 1, 1994: On his way to becoming a Huset’s Speedway in Brandon sprint-car king, Steve Kinser pulled one of the biggest upsets in his sport in 1994. The Bloomington, IN, native beat some of the world’s best drivers to win the International Race of Champions in Talladega (AL). Kinser, who said he was honored just to be invited to race in the event for the first time in his career, beat drivers such as Indy-car star Al Unser Jr. and NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt for the title.

40 years ago on May 1, 1984: Hawardewn (IA) native and former Sioux Falls College standout Brian Hansen was taken in the ninth round of the NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. Hansen, who led the NAIA in punting last fall, was not available for comment as he was working at his job as a cashier at the MGM Hotel in Reno, NV.

50 years ago on April 28, 1974: The Cresbard girls won three events at the Aberdeen Relays. Vera Schlosser won the high jump and the long jump while teammate Sandy Holmberg won the shot put.
