GROTON – Madison-Chester made a single run scored in the top of the first inning hold up in a 1-0 high school baseball victory over Groton Wednesday night.

Madison-Chester pitcher JD Prorock struck out 18 Groton batters and allowed just one hit before being relieved in the seventh inning.

Madison-Chester pieced together three straight hits in the opening frame to produce the game’s only run. The visitors finished with seven total hits.

Logan Ringgenberg had a leadoff single to start the second inning for Groton’s lone hit in the contest. A walk moved him into scoring position, but Prorock fanned the next two batters to eliminate the threat.

Dillon Abeln had a strong effort on the mound for Groton, pitching all seven innings, striking out four without allowing a walk.
