Area athletes secure victories at Capital City Qualifier

PIERRE – A group of athletes from the area found ways to top the competition Tuesday at the Capital City Qualifier.

Among the winners on the boys’ side were Joran Foss of the Aberdeen Central JV in the discus, Simon Fried of Mobridge-Pollock in the triple jump, Alex Schumacher of Miller in the 800-meter run, and Nicholas Schlachter of Potter County in the 1,600-meter run. Potter County won three relays on the day. Schlachter was a member of the first place 1,600-meter relay.

Mobridge-Pollock’s Ryli Thompson won the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes on the girls’ side. Catelynn Weig of the Aberdeen Central JV won the 100 hurdles, Potter County’s Emma Schlachter won the 800, and Kayden Cronin won the triple jump, Heidi Olson of Mobridge-Pollock won the 1,600, and teammate Sophia Overland won the pole vault, and Olivia Olson of Sully Buttes won the 300 hurdles. Potter County won a pair of relays and Herreid-Selby Area claimed one.
