HURON – Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun won her second straight tournament, while the Golden Eagles were involved in yet another photo finish in the team race.

Last week, Central edged Mitchell by a single stroke, and Thursday, the Kernels returned the favor during the Huron Invitational. Mitchell finished with a 313, while the Eagles were runner-up with a 314.

Central coach Kim Zimmerman said it has been a roller-coaster ride of emotions during the team battles.

“You’re up, you’re down, you’re tied,” Zimmerman said, “it’s kind of all over the place with us and them.”

Zimmerman was pleased with his team’s total, especially considering the conditions on the day.

“It was cool, damp and overcast,” Zimmerman said, “just not a fun day to play golf, basically.”

Braun continues her solid spring, shooting a one-over-par 73 to take medalist honors for the second tourney in a row.

“She’s solid. She putted really well today. … Generally when you do that you’re going to post a good score,” Zimmerman said.

Central’s Emma Dohrer finished third with a 76, and Kyley Wirebaugh was sixth with a 79.

“You can get three girls in the 70s like we did today, our top three golfers, that’s pretty impressive,” Zimmerman said. “That’s good golf. More than times not, that’s going to win you lot of meets.”

Central is in Yankton today where Zimmerman said they will be facing “a state tournament course, state tournament field.”

The meet will be at Hillcrest Country Club instead of Fox Run.

“A lot of these girls maybe haven’t played this course and if they have, it’s been a few years,” Zimmerman said.

Team Points: Mitchell 314, Aberdeen Central 315, Watertown 342, O’Gorman 344, Rapid City Stevens 356, Brookings 371, Harrisburg 416.
