WATERTOWN – Aberdeen Central fell in its final road dual of the tennis season 8-1 to Watertown on Thursday.

The Arrows took advantage of their veteran lineup at the top of the order.

“They’re seniors at 1-2-3. Usually when you have seniors at the top positions, you have a pretty good lineup and they definitely do,” said Central coach Trent Kurtz. “They’re really good up top. Guys that can play. They’ve got a lot of power, playing different ways. They’ve got guys who like to serve and volley. I love watching them play, being an old serve and volleyer.”

Central’s lone victory came at fourth flight singles where Aric Tennant grabbed a 10-7 victory.

“Aric had a really big win. That was awesome for him,” Kurtz said. “He looks like he’s finally healthy.”

Kurtz said that Tennant has been hampered with a foot injury, but was able to take advantage of a recent break in the schedule.

“You can just tell now he’s moving way better,” Kurtz said. “Ever since that 10-day break, he’s played awesome.”

Kurtz also pointed out the play of AJ Prehn, who dropped a close 10-7 match at top flight singles.

“AJ played really well,” Kurtz said.

The Golden Eagles will now have their only home matches of the season today. Central will host Brandon Valley at 11 a.m., and O’Gorman at 2 p.m. at the Holgate Courts.

Kurtz said it feel different playing at home after being on the road the entire season.

“It’s good,” Kurtz said of his players, “they can have their friends come out and watch, and obviously parents, relatives.”
