BROOKINGS – A short-handed Aberdeen Central team placed three golfers in the top 15 and finished third in team points at the Bill Scholten Invitational golf tournament on Thursday.

Mitchell, behind medalist Allison Meyerink, won the team title with a total of 305. Watertown finished second.

Central, playing without Kyley Wirebaugh due to illness, finished with a team total of 322, led by Dohrer who fired a 74.

“I thought under the circumstances we did real well,” said Central coach Kim Zimmerman. “I thought Emma played exceptionally well. She’s kind of put a few good scores together now the last few tournaments. That’s encouraging.”

Olivia Braun tied for seventh with a 77, and Morgan Jones tied for 10th with an 81.

“Morgan posted a really nice around for us today, which we’ve been kind of watching and hoping for,” Zimmerman said, “so again that’s encouraging as well.”

Zimmerman was not disappointed in his team’s overall total, especially playing without one of their top golfers.

“All things considered, without one of your top three players … I would probably take that and feel good about it,” Zimmerman said. “You have to give Mitchell credit. They played a really good round today. I mean that’s a great score.”

The Golden Eagles, who will be competing in the Eastern South Dakota Conference Tournament on Tuesday in Yankton, have picked up a quadrangular on the same course on Monday, after a team withdrew from the event.

“I feel fortunate that we are able to get in that,” Zimmerman said.

The quad allows the Golden Eagles to get another look at the course before the ESD.

“Looking forward to that,” Zimmerman said, “just being able to familiarize ourselves with that course again and play it the day before.”
