Pearson among trio heading into golf hall of fame

Former Sisseton coach Jim Pearson is one of three members heading into the South Dakota High School Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Other members to be inducted include Vermillion’s Kirk Hogen, and Huron’s Terry Rotert.

Pearson coached the Sisseton girls’ team from 2003 to 2019, and the boys’ team from 2005 to 2019. During his tenure, the girls had one individual state champion, and were state runner-up once, and the boys had two individual state champs, and finished state runner-up twice.

Combined the Redmen had nine top-six finishes at the Class A state tournament, and won 11 Northeast Conference championships under Pearson.

Hogen has been coaching the Vermillion golfs squads since 1979. He holds the state record for career victories with 3,308. The Tanagers have won three boys’ state championships, and three girls’ state titles, and finished state runner-up seven times in Hogen’s time as coach.

Rotert was a coach in Huron from 1991 to 2008. The Tigers had five top-six finishes at the Class AA state tournament, including a runner-up finish. Rotert’s teams won the Eastern South Dakota Conference three times.
