MADISON – Redfield defeated Warner-Ipswich-Northwestern in extra innings before being blanked by Madison-Chester in high school baseball playoff action on Wednesday.
The Muskrats eliminated W-I-N 6-5 in eight innings and then fell to Madison-Chester 5-0.
Redfield scored on a two-out error in the top of the seventh to tied the game with W-I-N, and then scored twice in the top of the eighth and held off a rally in the bottom of the frame to secure the victory. W-I-N had two runners on when the final out was recorded.
Erik Salmen had a pair of solo home runs to lead Redfield. Gavin Lane had three hits, and Xavier Kadlec and Chays Mansfield two hits for W-I-N. Logan Fischbach struck out 10 batters in seven innings.
The Muskrats managed just one hit against the standout pitching of JD Prorok of Madison-Chester. Prorok recorded all 21 outs on strikeouts in the contest. Redfield, which had just one hit, did have four baserunners, but could not break through.
Madison will advance to the State B tournament next week in Sioux Falls.
