MADISON – Aberdeen Roncalli had one top-10 place winner and took fifth as a team during the Madison Invitational golf tournament on Thursday. The Cavaliers had the same score as Tea Area but were edged out on a tiebreaker.

“It was nice to play in good weather for once,” said Roncalli coach Jon Murdy.

West Central won the team title, and Tori Peterson of Sioux Falls Christian was the medalist with an 82.

Claire Crawford was Roncalli’s top golfer. The sophomore finished with round of 90, good for ninth place in the tourney. Grace Seyer was 16th with a score of 98.

“The girls had to battle today on the putter greens,” Murdy said. “They were fast for them and had many holes in crazy spots.”

Murdy said it was good to see how his golfers matched up against solid competition, and he liked what he saw.

“It was good to play against some of the Sioux Falls area teams to see how our game will compare to theirs,” Murdy said, “and I don’t think we are too far off to have a good chance at regions as well as state.”
